Fitzroy Under 9-S v Brunswick: Great start for the Roys

Fitzroy Under 9S v Brunswick

by Seb Donnellan

The game was played at Alfred Crescent Fitzroy.

The weather was sunny with a little breeze.

1st quarter

I was very proud to be captain of the team today because my relatives Stephen and Ray Donnellan played for Fitzroy in the 1920s and 1940s.

Brunswick had limited scoring chances.  Fitzroy kicked well. There were many good marks. There were two nice goals for the quarter. There was lots of support from the interchange.

2nd quarter

Fitzroy had lots of good clearances from the centre. An injury occurred to Josh Murray late in the quarter. There was good leading across the Fitzroy area and there were good kicks at the same time.

3rd quarter

Fitzroy had many good handballs in this quarter some strong tackling occurred. Everyone was spreading out so there were more options to pass to in the back line.

4th quarter

Fitzroy scored the most goals for the day in this quarter. The team found space well. The defenders performed very well in the last quarter. And I think the people on the bench did a great job at keeping the bench warm for the following people.

I am proud to wear No.1 which was Kevin Murray and Paul Roos’s number.

Seb Donellan was co-captain today, along with Henry Nelson.
