Footy days (Dorothea Mackellar’s “My Country” with added verse)
by Abby Lennon (Aged 10)
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror – The wide brown land for me!
I love the roaring crowds,
As the Aussies score some goals.
Sliding through the mud,
As the ball bounces off the poles.
I love my footy days,
I love the way we try.
Teamwork and co-operation,
Exhausted, we say goodbye.
