Rays of Winter Sunshine

Molly Lennon leading from the front for Wests
As Queensland’s July school holidays reached their inevitable conclusion, Sunday morning saw youth footy return to ovals across Brisbane.
At Oakman Park just off Moggill Road in Toowong, players and spectators basked in the welcome winter sunshine as Wests Under-13 girls took on the Sandgate Hawks.
The Doggies got off to a flying start and never looked back, their shock and awe approach rattling Sandgate who, despite some encouraging football throughout the day, couldn’t release Wests’ tight grip on the game.
Leading at every change, a machine-like Bulldogs finished the day with a percentage-boosting win thanks to some free-flowing football out of the middle, an unforgiving backline and plenty of goal sneaks lurking up forward.
Almanackers and sisters, Abby and Molly Lennon played defining roles in a confidence-boosting victory, helping to show why Wests will pose a real threat to the competition come September.
