Hopes were high as we made our way onto the oval for our first game of the Lightning Premiership.
The game was Banyule Bears U10W vs St Mary’s U10S. The game was equal throughout the first three quarters though our team seemed to gain an edge in the last quarter scoring a goal with 1 minute remaining. It took a last minute surge of energy and a quick snapshot from their star player to score an equaliser with 10 seconds remaining.
Our second game was Us vs Templestowe Dockers. My team controlled the whole game dominating the midfield in particular. In the end it was a comfortable win helping our nerves settle after the close draw we had with St Mary’s.
The third game was against St Mary’s S again. It was a make or break game meaning whoever won would go through to the grand final, because St Mary’s had also beaten Templestowe. Everyone was anxious before the game. St Mary’s ran over the top of us in the first half and everyone was desperate at half time.We tried to come back in the second half kicking a few goals, but St Mary’s responded with two quick ones. In the end we were beaten but we all knew by the better team.
Although we were disappointed we still managed to play well in our final game, once again overcoming Templestowe. It was an enjoyable match taking our minds off the previous game. We won comfortably again which was nice.
The second St Mary’s game was a huge disappointment, though we ended up with an unusual outcome with one loss, one draw and two wins. Although we had been beaten it was by the better team and St Mary’s went on to win the grand final.
